PE
Swimming
Children have swimming lessons at Westonbirt Leisure Centre as part of their PE lessons. They have an hours swimming for a whole term - about 10 sessions - usually in Years 2 and 3. During the lessons children are taught in three ability groups by qualified instructors. Children who have not achieved the KS2 swimming requirements by the end of their series of lessons will have further sessions in a later year group.
We welcome parent help in accompanying the children to and from the swimming pool and have a weekly 'volunteers' rota.
The Leisure Centre is open to members of the public during swimming sessions although we have sole access to the changing facilities and the pool. There is additional safeguarding guidance for this in the document below.
PE & Sporting Events: Sept.2021 to July 2022
Tag Rugby Festival, Yr3&4 @Minety RFC
For some of our Year 3's this was their first ever festival! What a one to choose. As the games racked up, they began to grow with confidence and worked together as a team... A festival full of fun, tag rugby and hot dogs... yes you did read that right. To celebrate everyone's achievements at the tournament, they finished with a complementary hot dog from the club, and a ketchup smile!
Well done to everyone, you were brilliant!
Girls & Boys Football Festival, Yr5 & 6
Our first sporting festival of the year! What a great feeling to be back playing competitive sport with our fellow cluster primary schools. The children were incredible as ever, displaying great sportsmanship, team work, creativity, perseverance... the list is endless!
The boys team reached the semi-finals, whilst the girls reached the finals, only conceding a goal in the last couple of minutes of the game.
Above all, you made Crudwell proud of you achievements both individually and as a team... fantastic football!
Play Leaders
Here are our Year 6 children who have volunteered to run lunchtime clubs with our children in EYFS and KS1.
What a wonderful group of children! Let Play Leader Training commence...
Sports Council
Their fellow class mates have voted and selected this fabulous group of children to be their voice in school around all things to do with sport, PE and exercise.
They're eager to get going and to find out what their first mission is...
Sports Ambassadors
Congratulations to our chosen Sports Ambassadors for Crudwell this year!
You have a great year ahead to lead by example, and to show everyone what superb role models you are, both inside and outside of school.
Already, they have been on their first training course, to learn how to plan, organise and lead our Play Leader team. They learnt so much at Malmesbury Secondary School and now can't wait to get started!
Year 5&6 Girls and Boys Football Festival @Malmesbury
After the disappointment of this festival being cancelled just before half term due to severe weather conditions, today's competition was full of sunshine and surprises! Two separate competitions for the girls and boys took place at the same time. All teams showed determination and pride through out their games, even when things weren't going their way, the children continued to display unwavering Crudwell sportsmanship.
The girls competition, saw a range of wins, losses and draws, however our Yr 6 team ended finishing the group stages level on points not knowing if they were to going through to the semi finals. So, they went on to play an extra time, but still finishing level, so it went on to penalties... where they won! Into the semi-finals, with the same result, extra time, followed by yet more penalties... where we won again!... Into the finals, with the same pattern of events, extra time and penalties... where they continued their success and won 3 penalties to 1!!!
Team Crudwell, we are so immensely proud of you all.
Tri-Golf Festival @Malmesbury
What a glorious afternoon taking part in Malmesbury Cluster's first ever Tri-Golf Festival. For most of the children it was their initial taste of the sport, but was a massive hit all round. With one child asking for a golf set to added to their birthday list! Amazing effort Team Crudwell, and to finish 4th overall, topped off our fabulous afternoon.
Continuing the children's learning from the National World Book Day a few weeks ago, all the children across the school took part in dance workshops linked to a focus text for each phase run by the dance company 'West End In Schools'.
Seedlings took inspiration from 'Handa's Surprise' by Eileen Browne; Saplings let their imagination run with the text 'Where the Wild Things Are' by Maurice Sendak; whilst Poles drew on their creativity with 'Alice in Wondeland' by Lewis Carroll.
They say 'pictures say a thousand words', well look no further to find out how the children responded to the workshops... Thank you West End In School for bringing the sheer pleasure of combining books and dance together to form the perfect union.
Massive thank you to Malmesbury Secondary School teacher Mr Vallance for delivering training to out enthusiastic Year 6 Play leaders... they now can't wait to going and deliver their new at play times!
#BringOnTheSunshine #OutsideGames
We're very lucky to have booked a session with Bath RFC community outreach programme 'Schools Roadshow'. Children in Oak and Beech class were put through their paces as their rugby skills were tested by three actual coaches from Bath Rugby Club!
The kids had a great time, especially scoring tries in the mud! Bath RFC, please come back and visit us again soon.

Virtual Sports Day in action... both at home and in school!
Wednesday 1st July will be Crudwell's first ever Virtual Sports Day! This is an opportunity for children both at home and in school to compete against each other and to accumulate points for their House Group. The more activities you complete, the more points will be awarded to your House. So, which House Group will be crowned winners of our Sports Day Trophy this year...
Read on to find out how this will work on the day.
Good luck everyone, remember these activities are done in
The Spirit of the School Games.
On Monday 6th January (first day of term), the whole school took part in a Fit4Kids ‘Healthy Me’ workshop. Within the sessions the children were given fun and easily usable advice on a variety of areas linked to their wellbeing – from eating to exercising, building the their confidence, enthusiasm, and knowledge in these areas. Take a look at the photos below to see what we got up to.
Both Teams should be incredibly proud of their achievements this afternoon. With Team Stripes winning back the shield for Crudwell! Fantastic performances shown by all, real passion, determination and teamwork shown.
What a day to play cricket, we've seen all the seasons rolled into one, but the rain didn't stop play! What an amazing effort from Team Crudwell. Both A and B made me immensely proud with their super team spirit, and their great cricket skills were on display.
Team B had a difficult group draw, but that didn't stop them. Through out the day they continued to show a powerful determination and resilience. Overall they finished 5th in their group, being strongly led by Mrs Baker.
Team A also found themselves in a difficult grouping. They had a couple of close matches where they had to dig deep to pull out a win. At the end of the group round the final decision as to which team would go through to the semi finals was extremely close between the top three who finished on equal points! So, they looked at extra runs scored. Which saw us through to the semi finals as the top team from our group. In the semi finals they cruised through to the finals. In the final against Malmesbury the team were phenomenal!
I lost count of the number of 6's scored! Which led us to finish 1st overall, and qualify for the County Finals at Trowbridge County Ground.
WOW, WOW, WOW!!! Crudwell got through a tough round of matches, before reaching the playoffs for 1st and 2nd place. Yet again we completed the tournament with out conceding a goal! The final was so close, with the only goal of the match going in from a short corner after full time had been played. Another outstanding performance from all that played, true team performance.
Yes, it's true, dreams really do come true- Crudwell are Witshire County Hockey Champions 2017!!!
Team Celebrations on reaching The County Finals!!
After a day of torrential rain, the sun thankfully came out just in time for the event to begin. With over 60 enthusiastic runners taking part just from Crudwell, the weather certainly didn't dampen our spirits.
Congratulations to everyone who took part in the muddy conditions, you were all amazing!
Collectively as a school we took home:
- Yr3&4- Boys Individual= 1st and 2nd places, Boys Team A= 1st place, Girls Team A= 1st place
- Yr5&6- Boys Individual= 1st and 2nd places, Girls Individual= 2nd and 3rd places, Boys Team A= 1st place, Girls Team A=3rd place
Wow, what fantastic results!
What better way could you spend a Saturday morning, than playing other children in the cluster for some football and netball fun. An action packed morning of back to back matches.
Overall our football team finished a close 2nd, and our netball team were placed 4th. Thank you to everyone who took part, and those who also came along to support Crudwell at this event.
Year 3/4 Mixed Football Festival @The Red Bull Pitches
Brrrrrr! What a cold, wet afternoon we had playing Quicksticks at Malmesbury, but this didn't dampen our spirits. Wonderful team work showed by both teams at this competition, who grew as a team as the tournament progressed.
Green's finished 11th and Stripes 1st overall! Magnificent results. Well done to Stripes who have qualified for the Mid Wilts Play Offs in Devizes!
Wow! What an afternoon jam packed full of gymnastics. During their time the children competed in both floor and vault competitions, as well as experiencing new equipment too, such as the beam and bars.
To top off our incredible afternoon, one of our teams finished second overall in both floor and vault, and we also collected a couple of other seconds too, for our girls individual floor and vault routines. Brilliant job everyone!
We finished 2nd! An amazingly close final to watch.
Outstanding performance by everyone despite the chilly weather.
Massive thank you to Mrs Greggory for the hot chocolate and goodies to keep us all warm, and all the hard work she puts in through out the year. Two super teams to be extremely proud of.
All children had a super time competing against other schools from across Avon Valley.
Well done to all those that took part.
Joint winners of the festival!
Fantastic performance by everyone who took part, despite the weather!?!
Winners of the festival!
